Patricia is a 22-year-old creative visual artist specializing in metalwork, furniture design, and printmaking. She studies Furniture Design and Printmaking at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in Providence, RI. Working with metal, rust, and found objects as primary mediums, she also explores themes of material-focused experiments of decay and rebirth through objects and actions that hold memory. While preserving, connecting, and paying respect to the lineage of techniques passed down through the African Diaspora through rituals of spirituality, making, learning, and survival.

I use decay as a material to discuss memory, history and preservation of ancestral knowledge in my work. Currently inspired by cowrie shells, rust, mild steel, canvas, and leather to create vessels/objects that hold memory and share knowledge and discuss protection on a symbolic and physical plane. I am also passionate about creating objects that hold power as amulets and objects of protection, warding off evil or acting as stores of positive energy. My practice of making objects of prayer and devotion to a high power are created as a result of making larger complex pieces that further my research of African craft. I utilize intaglio, screen printing, stamp making and rust printing along with forging and woodworking practices in this journey to better understand my people, myself and our shared past.
